5Perfect for Straight RazorsDec 03, 2007
By Frederic Shmurak "Earl of Ashborough"
This stone is outstanding for sharpenening a straight razor (for shaving) or sharpening a tool to surgical grade standards.

5For the ultimate sharp edgeApr 15, 2011
By P. Furber "survivalist"
I bought this to sharpen my straight razors. It works as advertised. Comes in a nice case that doubles as a holder, the stone itself is BIG- over eight inches long and nearly 3 inches across so honing a razor is a pleasure, and with a delightfully soapy feel to the surface. I have an antique razor that was in poor condition: using #1000, #6000 and then this #12000 grit stone for the final edge brought it back to factory sharpness in less than half an hour. That mirror edge is really something and it passed the shave test with flying colors. Because the stone is actually a ceramic compound, you can also use it to sharpen ceramic kitchen knives like the Victorinox series for example. Expensive but worth every cent.

And did I just buy the last one? Sorry about that :)

5Made paring knife sharp enough to shave with....Jan 13, 2012
By press_any_key
Just received this sharpening stone and, although I bought it for honing my straight razor, I first tried it on a $7 paring knife. I first sharpened the knife on 1000 grit waterstone and then 6000 grit. The 6000 grit stone made the knife sharp, but after a few minutes on the 12000 grit stone, I could literally shave the hair off my arm. If you just want a sharp knife, than 6000 grit is good enough, but if you want razor sharp, then this stone will do the job.

Pros: The stone arrived very quickly and as advertised; in a very nice and sturdy plastic case. The stone also arrived in excellent condition, no nicks, cracks, chipped or broken edges/corners. "Made in Japan" is printed on the stone itself and the stone does cut fairly fast.

Cons: The following con is very minor: The original instructions are in Japanese, so unless you can read and understand Japanese, these instructions will be almost useless. The accompanying English instructions are a bit vague. Luckily, you can find all the info you need on the internet, Youtube has lot of good videos on how to care and maintain the stone and how to use it.

In all, I am very satisfied with this stone.
