grizly chiselsAug 17, 2008
By Chaim Goetesman I recently purchased the chisels and am very happy with them so far. The chisels came nicely polished right out of the box and require only minimal effort to hone them. They came nicely sharpened and were useable but need (like all edged tools) slight honing to be in tip top shape. I did find (as expected) that the chisels were a little to thick for fine carving but I am well satisfied with them as I feel this is a good entry level set although it could have some other chisels added to make the set more complete. If you're looking for a starter set of carving chisels I feel you can't go wrong for with this set. The price is reasonable and the quality is what one would expect, the thick metal is forgiving and allows you to mess up sharpening a time or two.

By P. Camejo This set of chisels would have been a bargain at four times the price. I honed each chisel a few times on a leather strop and started using them with excellent results. Now hours of use later they are still cutting great. They feel great and are nice and hefty. Plenty of what so far appears to be good steel. Nice looking too. I compare them to my $115 set of five palm chisels except now I hardly use the palm chisels and have many more options with this 12 chisel set.

By dan First and foremost the chisels, themselves are too thick for any type of detailed work. However, if you do purchase this carving set and take the time to properly sharpen them they could be useful for carving larger objects. Overall, I believe the price for this set is quite reasonable, they just need to be properly sharpened.
