no more clean up, planer doesn't clog anymoreMar 14, 2005
By E. Winemiller It fits and does the job just fine. With this thing hooked up and the dust collection running, I can plane a bunch a stack of wood and not have to sweep, clean, and cough my lungs up when I'm done. It saves me a ton of time and keeps the garage much cleaner.
I was worried that the thin intake on it would get clogged since the planer alone tend to, but it does not. The suction from the dust collector keeps things running smoother than if the planer was doing the job alone.
The only reason I give it a 4 star rating instead of a 5 is that it must be disconnected to close up the planer. So when it's time to move the machine away to put the minivan back in the garage you've got to twiddle with some thumbscrews for a minute. Not sure how a better design could have eliminated this step, but making it go quicker with a latch or something would have been nicer.

One of the bestAug 09, 2004
By HLKin This really works! I am always suspicious of the so called dust connectors. Most of them fail to collect the sawdust and leave a mess. But this is very effective at least 90 to 95% will be pulled into the dust collector.

Absolutely essential accessory for Delta 22-580 planerJan 14, 2005
By AcornMan Do not even try operating the Delta 22-580 planer without using this dust chute with a good dust collector attached to it. You'll create the biggest mess you can imagine and also end up with wood chips embedded in the wood you're trying to plane. It's really a shame that Delta doesn't include this accessory with its planer because it really is a vital requirement. I have been very pleased with its performance and would highly recommend it.

Works as expected, but overpriced and underdesignedNov 10, 2005
By Granite City Green Guy As other have noted, it's silly that Delta does not include this with the planer-- some other manfacturers use built-in fan assisted chutes on their 12" planers and Delta can't seem to bother with even engineering in a dust port. Connected to a 4" hose on my DC it does a swell job of managing dust (I recommend a two stage system since planers produce a lot of chips!). Unfortunately, the poor engineering means you cannot fold the outfeed table when storing the planer unless you removed (and find a place for) this chute...it's a needless PITA and poor design. Delta could do better.

Good accessoryAug 29, 2006

This dust connector hood is essential if you wish to collect the chips from your Delta 22-580 planer. Unlike many other reviewers, I remember the days before I could afford a dust collector and I would never say that dust collection is absolutely necessary, but it is the wisest thing you will ever do. My only caveat is that this collection hood requires a serious dust collector - a shop vac, even a tremendous vacuum like my Fein Turbo II cannot keep up with this planer's output and this dust connector design. However, if you do use a proper dust collector with this hood the combination cannot be beat.
The missing fifth star is because I find the 4" round opening to be slightly flimsy. I would prefer it to be solidly rigid, but it does work.
