Poor DesignJun 29, 2009

Ditto to the previous review. There are small ridges that hold the various rubber profiles in place in the tool holder...these ridges peeled off in minutes. I was extremely disappointed with this accessory. Definitely would not recommend this bit...not worth 99 cents. A redesign could fix this I wouldn't count on Fein to get it done any time soon.

Multimaster Sanding KitJun 27, 2009
By Gr The multimaster is a wonderful tool but this kit is poorly designed. The wedges tear through the sandpaper and pop out of the holding bracket within minutes of attachment.

Works just like it should!Feb 16, 2011
By Oyvind Kleven I have been stripping a lot of old trim in my house lately. After stripping, the needed to be sanded to get rid of the last bit of finish and create a smooth base for the new finish. I have been using the Multimaster with this kit to do all the profiles. FIrst, the process of getting the paper clamped down properly is a bit finicky. That's where it lost a star in my rating. Other than that, it worked flawlessly. It actually worked faster than I had expected, though the paper did clog pretty fast. Most likely this was the old finish. When using this kit, make sure you keep the speed of the tool down to almost the lowest setting. It actually sands faster and better, and generates less heat. I think this would have solved a lot of some of the previous reviewers issues. Also, you can buy rolls of fabric backed sandpaper and cut your own paper. I buy 10 meter 3" rolls from Klingspor, but you could also get 2" rolls and cut them a little longer to give you more bite into the clamp. The standard sheets from Fein are about 2"x3".

Profile Sanding Set Works FeinDec 29, 2010

Summary: Proper setup has a slight learning curve, however this is a great product, and works very well.
I was surprised at the low rating this kit got, as I have had very positive experiences. The complaints mainly center around the sand paper coming loose. Admittedly the set up can be a little tricky at first, however with a little practice loading the sand paper pad becomes second nature. I have used the sanding profile to successfully remove the stain on the doors of an old bathroom vanity, and it did a great job.
The reason the negative reviewers seem to be having trouble is not a design flaw in the profile sander, if there is any flaw, it would be that the sand paper is about 6mm or 1/4" too short. Rather the problem is the user is not aligning the sand paper swatches properly and engaging retaining clamps securely. The easiest way I have found to secure the sand paper: 1. Attach the retaining clip to the Multimaster first. 2. Insert the desired rubber profile 3. Secure one end of the sand paper pad, open the retaining clip on the side nearest to the Multimaster, i.e the inside one. The top edge of the sand paper should extend just past the lip of the orange clip, and touch the top of the metal part of the retaining clip and no further. 4. This next part is tricky; to secure the second edge of the sand paper to the sander, open the opposite/outside clamp, the trick here is to not touch/disturb the inside clamp, i.e. only open one of the jaws not both. With the one jaw open, secure the sand paper pad ensuring the sand paper is taught and even across the head of the rubber sanding profile.
If you have completed steps 1 - 4 successfully you should be able to sand at any speed. Note, the sand paper and profile can still come loose if the user catches the outside edge of the sanding pad on the material being sanded, so be sure to keep the sand flush to the work piece.
Pros: Excellent performance, allows sanding in hard to reach places Cons: Learning curve to set up, replacement sanding paper expensive and hard to find
I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
