Great little saw 4 1/2 starsFeb 12, 2010
By G. Robinson
"Extensive reader"
I find that this design saw is much easier to handle and more comfortable when making a lot of cuts than the usual top handle design. I got it because I was ripping and notching some ACQ for my deck and my old Craftsman (from the days when they were made of metal in the US) was getting hot enough I had to let it cool. A friend came by who does fancy carpentry and restoration for a living and got his Trion out. It was faster cutting than the Craftsman (both had new blades) and didn't overheat. Between the sacrificial plastic 0 clearance gadget and the pendulum action there is no tear-out even with things like the thin plastic coated MDF or 1/8" plywood.
BTW there is no reason to remove the plastic front guard as it has a pointer and line showing where the blade will go.
Its light enough and has so little vibration that I can saw all day even with my arthritis.
With the Festool 490031 Guide Stop it can be used on the guide rails for more precise cuts.
The reason I didn't give it 5 stars isn't the saw; its the case. The liner is thin brittle plastic and lacks provisions for storing blades or accessories although with a few changes there is room. But you can't modify it because of the material, frustrating. I know that its sort of a nit but when I spend $300 on a saw (when I could buy a Bosch 1591EVSK 6.4 Amp Barrel Grip Jigsaw for about 1/2 that) I kind of expect perfection. One other minor nit is there is no switch lockout so to be completely safe you should unplug the cord. With details like interchangeable cords between tools and the locking cord feature that's a little disappointing. However; the switch is well enough protected that accidentally switching the Trion on isn't really a concern.
Tip for Festool documentation go to their site, click on support, click on knowledge base, scroll down to the tool and click on it; you will get a list of updated and supplemental documentation that is quite good.

Great Tool at a Not So Great PriceFeb 03, 2007
By James A. Wickham I've had this saw for almost a year now and have used it fairly regularlly. It's quality of construction is second to none, vibration is minimal and when hooked up correctly to one of their vacuums it is nearly dust free in operation.
Other features I have been very pleased with is the accuracy of the cut - very little blade deflection even in thicker stock. Changing the blades is a simple process and adjusting the base to cut at an angle is solid and without any play. These were all major flaws in the DeWalt jigsaw that this one replaced.
One frustration with this tool has been the dust collection. For it to be effective it requires a plastic guard to be installed in the front of the tool which completely screws up your view of the cutline. I had to take mine off to even see where the blade was but this drastically reduced how effective the dust collection system could be.
If I were back on the market yet again looking for a jigsaw I would probably go with the Bosch. Considering how well made this one is though, it will probably last as long as I do.

excellent product, butDec 06, 2006

I want to start my review stating the quality of the product. This is the best jig saw that I have ever used. When combined with other items in the Festool system, this is the most functional saw of it's type. Festool is second to none.
My issues are with the provider. When my order arrived, it was clearly a used item. While I am willing to pay the price for Festool products, I am not willing to pay the new item price for a used item. Most of my tools I purchase from Amazon, but I will look to Bob Marino, or local sources for my Festool purchases.
