Two Thumbs WAY Down on a Poor, Poor DesignMar 10, 2009

This Mobile Saw Base, the HTC HGS-10-G, intended for a General Cabinet saw, is a terrible, flawed design, and a waste of time and money!! I received this item promptly from Amazon, and was initially pleased with the quality of the product - welded construction and a nicely painted finish. Upon assembly and mounting the machine, however, my opinion completely changed.
The base's three-point support of the General Cabinet Saw is TOTALLY inadequate. There is so much flex in the base that the saw literally bounces up and down when any slight downward force is applied - the extension arm bends just like a bow. The center of gravity of the saw also sits so near the two main wheels that the whole base and saw can be tipped up with only modest downward force on the left extension wing. It is a terrible, terrible design, as well as a dangerous one.
A large cabinet saw like the General, or any other heavy piece of equipment, needs a solid, stable base with FOUR CASTERS directly under the machine! General markets one in this configuration, with four wheels under the main base, plus two small additional casters under the extension table legs. I'll be replacing this HTC base with the General, ASAP.
Amazon makes the return process painless, but I still wasted a lot of time monkeying around with this base, and have nothing to show for it. Save yourself the headache and click right past this product, you'll be glad you did.
