Better save up for a decent blade and chip breakerOct 25, 2009
By Eddy Merckx This plane isn't bad at all. All you have to do is flatten the sole, flatten the frog, tighten the depth adjuster, then buy a Hock blade and chip breaker. After that, it's great. Figure on spending about as much for a decent blade and chip breakers as you paid for the plane. With the stock blade, it is practically useless. The stock blade and breaker are so thin that you will get chatter marks all over whatever you're trying to plane. In my experience, Anant plane blades don't take or hold a very good edge either, so you'll just be frustrated.
Of course, for a similar price you can buy a vintage Stanley and perform the same tune up. The nice thing about the Anant is that at least it isn't broken or rusty when you get it.
