The "Long of it" for your Jet LatheMay 28, 2011

I had to turn some long processional torches. Rather than turn them in two parts and joining them in the middle, I bought the bed extension so I could turn them as a single long unit. It was relatively easy to attach to my lathe (several bolts and an indexing pin) and was easy to align. This item is just the ticket for turning those really long items on your Jet 1442 or 1642. It was relatively easy turn a 50" piece. A word of caution - you will need a steady rest for the middle of long pieces (possibly two) or the deflection will cause chatter. Is it worth it? I think so. I see some more long turnings in my future.
