2A piece of plastic.Jun 03, 2011

I got this for my Jet 10in saw. I have to say it took way longer than it should have to get working, and some added parts. I'm not a pro and maybe I was missing something, but here's what I did:

The first issue was that the pin that holds it down at the back had no matching hole in the saw. So I drilled into the cast iron; it's not fun drilling into an expensive saw. Once I got the hole drilled I noticed a problem. The insert is actually an 1/8 too small, and wiggled. There was something about lining it up to mark for the hole that was off since I couldn't tell it was too small. Because of this, the hole I drilled was off by a 1/16th, so I got out the metal file and filed away until the pin would let the insert lay down.

Now that I got it on place I could see how much smaller it was, and dealt with the wiggle by screwing four tiny brass screws into the sides to use as micro adjusters. No more wiggle, and I could now adjust the insert in all directions for a perfect fit. I wish it came with these built in.

Next issue: it didn't fit over a 10 inch blade, so I had to throw on a 7 1/4 blade, which has a thinner kerf. The thinner kerf gave me problems mounting it (an issue with the saw, not the insert), and also was going to cut a narrower channel in the insert than wanted.

The final issue was the switch up to the full size blade. Because of the kerf problem, I had to start the saw with the blade in contact with the insert. Again, not a pleasant feeling. With a big board on top, it didn't jump and worked out fine, but I didn't think this should have been part of the process.

Under normal circumstances I would have sent this back, but I was in a pinch to cut some acrylic and needed an insert. It was my only option so I made it work, but my guess is that there are better products out there that actually fit Jet saws, and work out of the box.

1Part numbers match, but this part is no match to my table saw, stay away!Jan 23, 2011

Just like the title says - the part numbers on my table saw match this part. But I didn't even have to take it out of the package. It was way to short and way to thick. Not only that, it didn't even use the same technique to stay safely mounted to the saw!
