A matter of preferenceFeb 22, 2004
By The Happy Clamper I believe the HD Jorgensens are the best bar clamps available. Bessey's tradesman are good, but can be a little inconsistant on the quality control end & a little too expensive. Record's are good too but very expensive. I prefer the Jorgensen's clutch, it holds better. You can snug the clamp up tight enough to hold the work yet still make adjustments just by pushing it together, an excellent feature. Jorgensen's pads are top notch, they're thick & soft & truly protect the work. The Jorgensen swivel allows you to clamp up to about a 15 degree angle with no additional clamping aids, very nice. I like the big wooden handles, I find them easy on the hands. Untill someone comes up with a better featured bar clamp, "Jorgies" will remain the prefered clamp on my workbench.

get plentyJul 17, 2002
One of the essentials when setting up a shop. You need multiples of all sizes. The Jorgensen along with the Pony pipe clamps are my favorites. They are easy to set up and use, they hold the piece tight and with the rubber pads they don't mar the wood. They also make a 24" and above with a ratcheting system (very nice). You can't go wrong with Jorgensen.

Nice Heavy Duty ClampJun 29, 2011

I'm a little surprised by Amazon's prices for these clamps. I've been buying the 24" version from "the big orange store" for about $6.50 less per clamp! The build quality is truly "heavy duty". I haven't noticed any surface damage from the nice thick pads. You cant beat $14 ea for these, highly recommended.

Stain the woodAug 06, 2008

The rubber on these clamps is very soft. When clamping it leaves a stain on the wood that will not come off without a lot of sanding/scraping/planing. They work fine and are pretty heavy duty but the marks that are left remain after finishing if only a clear coat or light stain is used. I have a lot of these clamps (and the 12" and 36") I bought for a large project. The price was fine but now I am looking for other pads to change out with these. If you find the price is great then buy them and get new pads.
good clampFeb 24, 2011
By Jean Butterfield I purchased the heavy duty clamps because they work better for me, the price difference between the light duty and heavy duty is only about $2.00
