Jorgensen cabinet master clampsJun 27, 2003
By Brian Mahony I own both the Bessy and Jorgensen brands and both are excellent and you can not go wrong with either, but I would give the edge to the Jorgensen because 1. they have a deeper throat. 2. they are a couple bucks cheaper. 3. the stand up bracket makes them easy to adjust. 4.they are made in the U.S.A. One reviewer stated that when he released the pressure on the clamped wood he was unable to move the slide. You must lift up on the handle after releasing the pressure which will come up apout 3/4" then the slide will glide smoothly up and down the bar.

Jammed closed but easy to fix, great clamps for priceJun 08, 2009

I just received these with the jaws jammed closed, I knew about this, but they were really jammed! First try turning the screw handle counterclockwise as far as you can and yank the handle up. Normally, you release pressure on the clamp by unscrewing it a few turns then pull up on the handle to release the lock, but this implies the jaw move forward a bit. If it's jammed up against the fixed jaw, it can't move forward, hence the problem. So, if you still can't free it, then get a 1/4" drift pin punch and knock out the two 5/16" black pins holding the "Fixed jaw", they're not tapered so you can go from either side, pull the Fixed jaw off the bar and the other jaw will be free to pull up on the handle releasing the lock. Always keep the lock mechanism in the middle of the screw when not using, in case the jaw slides down to the fixed jaw and slams shut. You will now have plenty of play on the screw handle to turn counterclockwise and release the lock. These are heavy duty clamps, I like the foot at the end of the bar, also you can reverse the moveable jaw to make a spreading clamp, pretty good value for the money, despite the annoyance. Too bad they just didn't put a spacer block between the jaws preventing them from closing before shipping. Oh yeah, plan on getting a gargantuan box from Amazon for each one.

Bad Rap for these clamps.Feb 01, 2012

I've read the reviews written by others here and cannot imagine why none of you even tried to contact customer service for these problems. I've owned four of them for about 7 years now and never had a problem. However, I too broke one of my clamps with the pot-metal head and was very dissappointed in them for awhile. I bought a new one to replace it and immediately noticed that the head mechanism was made of ductile iron and I knew the company had recognized the problem and fixed it. I stared at that broken clamp for about a month. (I rarely throw something away that I think I might use). Anyway, I decided to contact customer service via email. Whoa, what a surprise I got! I recieved a personal reply for a customer service representative saying they were shipping me parts to repair my clamps within an hour. That was last week. I recieved the parts yesterday, about a week later, have installed them. I'm very happy that I won't likely break another clamp head. I am also very impressed with the speed and willingness of the company to remedy my problem. They also have a little spacer available to prevent them from locking closed as mentioned above, but I didn't get those. Go to Adjustable Clamp Company's website and let them know if you have a problem with their clamps. A Made-In-America product with good old-fashioned American service and support. I'll buy Jorgensen clamps whenever possible.

Good stuff!Jun 26, 2003
Upon receiving the clamps I ordered, one refused to open. I looked them over, determined how they operated, stuck a flat screwdriver behind the clamping piece and the clamp opened, never to stick again. The clamps work first rate...

reevaluation Of my reviewSep 11, 2003
By Brian Mahony Since I wrote my review on the 36' cabinet master clamps I have broken two of them. The pot metal in the heads shattered when hand tightening them. My advice now is stay from them.
