best for assemblySep 01, 2007

If you're gluing big pieces, like a door or long cabinet, these may be your best choice. They are very strong, and have a 7,000 lb. clamping force. You can literally crush wood with them, just like putting a piece of soft wood in a vise. But this is great for assembly, when you have a lot of biscuits or pieces, and need to pull them all together at once. I built a door 32 inches wide, and had 32 biscuits all lined up in 7/4 mahogany....these pulled it all together at once, cranking one clamp at a time. You don't need to pound with a hammer to get the pieces to "seat" together. This clamp will do it. Other clamps have a much wider face area, but none are near as strong. It's great for those few minutes when the glue is on everything and it has to be clamped up without being crooked. I would rate these number one for that, since they dont' bend like pipe clamps, and have a smooth, powerful clamping action. They don't lose their straightness or power over a long length, like pipe clamps do.
Great ClampNov 27, 2009

These are very powerful clamps. I wish I had more of them in a variety of sizes. I do suggest that a small piece of wood be placed between the clamp and the work piece to prevent crushing the work piece. You can use double sided tape to hold the scap to the clamp.
