Description:

The Norton 3X abrasive sheet offers more durability over an uncoated abrasive while resisting chip loading. This sheet is used for paint stripping, sanding and finishing on composites and fiberglass, and all-purpose bare wood sanding.

Coated abrasives have individual abrasive grains spaced at a predetermined distance from one another. An open coat covers about 50 to 70 percent of the coated surface with abrasive, for greater flexibility and resistance to clogging than a closed coat, which has 100 percent grain coverage. An open coat allows for longer usage time by clogging less, while a closed coat offers a finer surface finish than an equivalent open-coat abrasive. This sheet is open-coat. The stearate coating offers more durability over an uncoated abrasive while resisting chip loading. Stearated abrasives are non-pigmented to eliminate color transfer to the work surface. These sheets are typically used on portable sheet sanders and portable file sheet machines.

Zirconia alumina is a self-sharpening abrasive that allows for a faster cut rate and longer life than aluminum oxide, due to its ability to fracture and refracture, creating new cutting edges. Zirconia alumina is often used for high stock removal on wood and metals.

Abrasives are used for a variety of applications from shaping a part to fine finishing, depending on the grit size. Low grit numbers like 40 are coarse and are used for removing excess material and shaping a part. High grit numbers like 400 are fine and help to create a smooth surface finish.

Norton Abrasives manufactures a wide variety of sanding, grinding, and polishing abrasives, and has been located in the United States since 1885. In 1990, Saint-Gobain purchased Norton, keeping its manufacturing facilities and offices in the same location. Norton/Saint-Gobain has been recognized as a Global 100 Sustainable Company, as well as earning ISO 9000 and 14001 certification for quality and environmental management standards.

5A Gritty PerformanceNov 17, 2010
By Spudman
The wooden frame of the porch's door kept sticking. I'd sand, and a few days later it'd stick again. The short lasting sandpaper kept tearing and flustered the user.
Then I tried Norton 60 Grit. It shaved the door quickly and kept it shaved. I could have planed the door or used a wood chisel to take off more wood, but when working on a door, I don't want to chance taking off too much. Kinda hard to put it back. I really pleased with the performance and durability of the Norton 60 grit.

5Great ProductJun 18, 2010
By M. Tawil
I have been using all sorts of sandpaper on my many furniture projects. On this last project, made from soft maple, I used this paper for the first time. I was amazed! It just kept on going, all I had to do was tap off the collected dust and go back to work. When I reverted to 'ordinary' paper it loaded up in 30 seconds of hand sanding and that was it. I have not compared it to carborundum papers.

5Yes, it is faster and longer lifeFeb 17, 2010
By C. MacPhail
I've liked this sandpaper ever since I discovered it 3 years ago. It makes the tedious job of sanding almost enjoyable.

It is much faster cutting and much longer lasting than ordinary sandpaper. 150 grit is perfect for general use.

Klingspor has a similar "Zinc Stearate" sandpaper for a good price if you buy a 50-pack.

5premium sandpaper from a premium manuracturerJul 16, 2009
By G. Bleasdell "Caddyman"
I started using the Norton 3X sandpaper soon after its introduction and now use almost nothing else. For woodturning and woodworking I find it to hold up longer and has very good uniformity of grain size so few if any spurious scratches that you get with cheaper paper. Also, it resists loading and the light paper stands up well to flexing without tearing. I use 80 to 400 grit and all are excellent. It does cost more than common sandpaper but it lasts so long that it ends up being less expensive.

5Best Sandpaper, Period!!Mar 22, 2009
By J. Hanson "mississippi55"
This is the best sandpaper available today. I am a residential home contractor/remodeler. Once I hit on this 3M sandpaper, I threw out all my other types and this is all that I will buy. It works longer and better than anything else that I have used.
