Works just fineSep 02, 2005
By Zbigneiv Cadillac I had no problems with this meter, it worked just as advertised. The readings seem to be accurate, (based on comparisons to estimates of what dried wood should read. The only comment I have is that the probe cover is easily knocked off.

Great woodturning productJan 23, 2007
By George Lutz I bought this when I was doing a lot of woodworking and it just sat in my drawer. In the last year I've changed to woodturning and have been turning lots of green wood. My mentor taught me to rough turn the wood to shape, weigh it, then let it age until it the weigh stabilized. I had to take several measurements over several months to do this. Then I thought of this meter. After searchng and searching, I finally found it. Reinserted the battery and tested the bowls. When the moisture content was about 10% the bowls were also stable on weight. I mentioned this to my mentor and he said that's a great method but most woodturners were to cheap to buy a moisture meter.
So, if you're into woodturning - 5 stars.

a good startDec 01, 2007
By wood butcher I bought this meter because I am going to try to resaw and mill some of my own flooring and trim and I want to make sure the wood is stable(dry) before I go to the trouble. I am also using it to check moisture in firewood before I burn it or buy it. I don't know how accurate the meter is but it seems to be consistent, although the readings can vary greatly at different depths. The more expensive meters have probes to hammer into the wood and that would probably be the best way. I cut or split a sample and test immediately to get a "core" sample because it is hard to push the meter probes very far into wood esp. hardwoods.

great value gadgetOct 25, 2008
By David A. Keeling I have had this for almost 6 months and it works like a champ. It is easy to use and gives consistent readings. It was much cheaper than other similar models. Make sure you do a quick finger test to make sure you have turned it off - I've killed one battery because I forgot to turn it off.
