What they don't tell you when you buy a lathe is that it's only the beginning of the money you'll be spending. You need tools to cut wood with (that part is obvious), you need a way of sharpening of those tools, and you need ways of holding the wood while you shape it. This chuck set up gives you several options for that, and it looks good doing it.
I frankly don't know what advantage the titanium coating gives this product over the other model, but I will admit that it looks pretty fancy. I bought this set because it seemed complete: several sets of jaws that are exchanged fairly easily along with a center that can be clamped in there (to allow you to do some spindle work without removing the chuck) and a screw chuck.
I did have trouble with said screw: it failed, shearing off shortly after I started using it. Since they don't stock individual replacement parts, Amazon put me in touch with the manufacturer, who readily agreed to replace it. No further complaints!
I had always heard how addictive turning was, but I found it very frustrating also. This chuck system has helped with that, since it's reliable and versatile. I have accessorized it with a pair of larger jaws for finishing off the bottoms of larger bowls. I'm still a rank amateur when it comes to turning, but at least I can't blame my tools.
Note: changing the jaws means removing several small black screws. If you're doing this on the lathe, do yourself a favor and put something under the chuck to catch those screws before you drop them into the sea of shavings all over your floor!!! And keep a magnetic pickup tool around to help find them when you drop them anyhow.

I don't write many reviews unless something is outstanding or a complete waste of money.
This barracuda chuck system is complete in every way. The titanium coating makes it look sharp, plus I expect it will keep it from forming rust on the surface for a very long time. One thing to expect is it will throw off a little bit if oil or grease when you first use it, but not much. Mine did not come floating in oil as suggested by someone else, but enough to keep it in good shape. I did wipe off the parts with a paper towel when I opened them up. I did not have any problems with screws breaking or wrenches not fitting. I see no need to kill it by over tightening the screws as they aren't going to go anywhere, you just don't want them loose. Snug is all that is required. All the parts fit together very well, just make sure you don't have any small chips of wood in or under the jaws when assembling and everything works great. This chuck set makes turning of bowls a snap. It's all you could ever want in a lathe chuck system.

Have used this chuck as a second chuck when I am multitasking. It has all of the accessories that I need except the large bowl chuck which I purchased separately. By buying this set, I saved significantly over separate purchases.

I haven't had a chance to use it much yet, but am very pleased with my purchase. It works as advertised and is easy to use. The only downside that I am aware of, is the included storage container which is pretty much useless. It has a space for each part of the system, but I would much rather have a divided satchel type bag that would sit in an upright position rather than a plastic container that takes so much room to open.
I should also add that Amazon was easy to work with, delivery was fast, and it arrived in good shape.

Great Chuck But Smells Like an Oil SpillMar 25, 2009

Ashamed that this unique cool chuck comes floating in a perservative liquid oil solution that emits noxious fumes that will knock the bugs off the wall. I cannot believe that they are allowed to import this toxic preservative. You do not want this in an enclosed area as it is very flammable. After you wash the case and the chuck and the accessory parts in alcohol, you will still need to leave it outdoors for a couple of weeks.
When it dries the fun can begin and this is a great chuck that runs true and is well balanced. Once past the toxic material it is worth all the labor washing and getting it clean. Happy turning !
