Quiet is relativeJan 04, 2008
By Wood Worker This is a better price than if you order from PSI Woodworking Direct. Mine arrived in good shape and complete. It works well for sanding directly in front of it, running at full speed. This is the only speed I use. The sound measured with a sound level meter is very close to 80 dBA. This is quieter than some dust collectors and vacuum cleaners but you will not hold a conversation without raising your voice.

Portable Tabletop Dust CollectorJul 21, 2008
By Ken J. Heeter The PSI Woodworking DC725 Portable Tabletop Dust Collector is quite handy to have if your craft activity creates dust. My activity is gourd art which includes drilling, sanding, carving gourds all of which create a large amount of dust. While wood dust is not healthy to be breathing, gourd dust is worse and can lead to very bad health issues. I have found that while using the PSI dust collector, face masks aren't necessary which makes for a more comfortable working situation. The electric cord has it own storage area which makes moving the machine around easier and safer. A double electric recepticle makes it handy for plugging in tools and/or work lamp. Two recessed areas on the top are provided for inserting adjustable desk lamps. The noise level of the machine is a plus expecially if one has been using a shop vac during a craft exercise. The clear plastic dust shields are adjustable making it possible to adjust them to your project needs, however, it is unhandy to use this machine as a true portable because the plastic dust shields cannot be stored with the machine when moving it. This problem could be easily corrected by the addition of perhaps "L" brackets on the back of the machine to sit the shields in when moving or storing. While I haven't had the machine very long, my only negative is the issue of storing the plastic shields when the machine is not being used or moved from one place to another.

Lousy quality control.Oct 30, 2007
By M. Wolters Received item but the fans would not work. Had to remove the cover on the wiring section on unit to find wire not inserted in the terminal strip.Fixed problem & unit works ok. But the claim that fans are super quiet is not true. Also was missing part of the foam strips (which were described in the manual as cork). I plan on contacting the Manufacturer & letting them know that had we not needed this for my wife's project it would have been returned.

Portable Dust Collectors for WoodcarvingJan 25, 2011
By carver girl The following portable dust collectors are used at the Texas Woodcarver's Guild classes:
Razetip #530 $399.00 Phone: 306-931-0889 Penn State #DC725 $159.00 Phone: 800-377-7279 Rockler #20523 $149.00 Phone: 800-279-4441 Woodcraft #140605 $179.00 Phone: 800-225-1153 Grizzly #G9955 $119.00 Phone: 800-523-4777
I selected the Penn State DC725 because it moved a lot of air and was a price I could afford. Amazon delivered the item in good condition, but a screw was missing from the handle. It was not a screw easily available at the hardware store. When I called Penn State, the gentleman was very helpful and mailed out a replacement screw the same day. I have used the dust collector and found it to be very satisfactory for power wood carving dust collection.
