Doesn't work with larger lathesFeb 28, 2009
By Richard I bought this, thinking it would work on my Powermatic 3520. When it arrived, I realized that it was intended for a mini-lathe. This would have been a bery nice thing to put in the description of the product. The actual product is MUCH smaller than it appears on my computer screen.

It looks good but I could not get it close enough to make any difference. May be my fault but I built one out of a plastic storage box that works fine.

Good Enough To Buy TwiceJan 23, 2012
By Tom I had one of these previously but let it go with the Jet wood lathe I sold. Now I have another, smaller, lathe and knew this would work well for me. My only criticism is with the magnetic attachment. There's no question that the 4 magnets are extremely strong but when attached to the back of the lathe, on the slightly uneven casting surface, vibration causes the collector to slowly tip to one side or the other. I'll have to make a mounting behind the lathe that hinges backwards so I can tip it away from the workpiece.
Lathe HoodFeb 28, 2012
By Tick-Tack Overall, I am very impressed with this little guys performance as DC at the lathe is very difficult and especially on fine dusts. For pens and bottle stoppers, my wood shavings have been cut 90% that hit around the lathe or on the floor...everything else goes in the DC. As far as the dust --> GONE!!! My fine dust does not occur around the shop anymore. I found that it works even better when I use the easy tools as they tend the throw the shavings up and back making it all go into the suction as regular gouges tend to throw it more out(could be my technique though). It takes a little forward thinking to set up, but once complete you are good to go. I did not have issues with the magnets letting loose or moving as indicated in some other reviews on the internet (if so, just get a 3 inch, 95# pull magnet and all is solved I would think). It may be that I did not have issues because I have the hood/hose connection supported upwards to a lighting system with mule tape as I interchange this connection with a big gulp hood for bowls. I would recommend this hood to anyone doing pens or bottle stoppers. My only con would be that it is a little narrow and would be perfect if it was about 3-4 inches wider. I use it on a Delta Midi.
