Very DisapointedAug 23, 2007
By D. Kennedy I have been using these chisels for about 3 weeks now and a couple of them are already falling apart. The tools have become loose in the handles, and the pins that hold the brass rings around the top of the handles have broken off so the brass pieces fall off constantly. These chisels would probably be fine for turning spindles from softer, nearly round materials, but they will not hold up when used for turning square stock to round, especially if you are turning hard woods like oak and hickory. The only positive thing I have to say about these tools is that since they are high speed steel, they do hold an edge well. In conclusion, I would not order these chisels again, under any circumstances.

Ok for the money but.....Oct 14, 2010

When I bought my lathe these where what I could afford with what I had left. They are bright red and not brown as in the pic.
The handles seem ok but there are gaps where the metal enters the handle so I filled them with epoxy so hopefully they won't come loose done the road. I had planed on buying the PSI larger set when I have more money but the great neck 800 are made in the U.S.A. are my guess are better quality. It seems when I buy Asian there is always something wrong with them and you need to fix it yourself.
I have a few great neck tools made by Americans and them come honed and ready to use. I had to spend the afternoon to sharpen these as some barely had an edge so if you have the extra money by the great neck from Amazon. In a few weeks when I buy them I will give a review with the comparison.
Update: After spending quite a few hours with these chisels I think there a good deal for the price.
Make sure the handles are tight before you use them, glue them in if need be.
All chisels need to sharpened during use. MT2 steel stays sharp longer but not forever.
They DO work well on hard woods and I have made small bowls and many pens with them.
The only real drawback is the size. If you want to do larger bowls etc you need larger tools.
The handles are to short to have good leverage.
This is all I could afford when I bought my lathe and don't regret it.
I will buy the larger set of Benjamen's best from PSI or Amazon.
If your thinking about buying them there much better than some other cheaper chisels.

Great Starter SetMar 04, 2009
By T.Zimm I bought this set for my lathe two years ago. They have a comfortable feel to them and fit very well in my hands. They hold a good edge and are very durable. I've introduced a couple people to wood turning and have recommended this exact set. I would buy them again.
These work just fine for a beginner.Oct 19, 2011
By Aaron I know a lot of people are picky about every little detail, but this set works just fine. Yes the wood handles are a little more red than the picture. Last time I checked, the business end was not made of wood. If you are looking for PROFESSIONAL grade tools, go spend professional grade money. Have a great day :0)

Great set nice box if you use the box Great price for a beginner set I was not looking to spend what these sets usually cost $BIG$ this is my first turning set so I will not get in to what I don't know I.E. technical aspects but I have turned for APR 6 months with these and they work. Again I am a beginner and have never turned with a 500.00 set but I like these.
