These multi-purpose chisels are a solid addition to a set of turning tools, especially a beginner's set. The "versa chisel" shape--what Sorby calls a spindlemaster, and similar to the Crown skewchigouge--does allow fast wood removal like a gouge, albeit with a cleaner cut, and cuts beads like a skew chisel, but with less chance of a catch. Not zero chance--when you first start out with these, there'll be a little catch or two, but they're much more forgiving than a skew, especially for beginners. So, while they don't do anything unique, being able to turn quick tapers and smooth beads without changing tools is nice, and the lack of catching can be key, depending on how nervous you are with your skew.
The grind on these is a little rough, and the workmanship is the adequate-not-fancy typical of the Benjamin's Best line, but they keep an edge better than I expected: all in all, an excellent value for the price. The set is one "mini" size and one "midi" size chisel, both of which are good practical sizes in my hands.

I like these tools. Once I sharpened them I've found they are great for finer scraping and getting a good finish before sanding. I'm not an expert so take it for what it's worth. Good feel and control. I think the Benjamin's Best tools are a great value for the money.
 why get this if you have so many other good scrapersJan 09, 2012

every thing on the chisel is not finished as well as it should be the handle is but the blade is not
when using this the blade gives you some hot spots
this chisel does not cut wheel at all it catches and is not safe
i gave it three stars because hiw it is for the price it is hss
the other psi scrapers are great but not sharp
psi is a high value brand
