Feed-screw steel extremely low qualityMay 21, 2010

Cheap Chinese junk. The feed-screw for motion in the long-dimension is of such poor quality steel that the handle-mount threads strip under the force from turning the motion handles. If it wasn't made from such low-quality material it would be a pretty nice unit. The design seems pretty nice--it was just made from really low-quality steel. We're returning the unit to MSC and hope to find a unit that's made from higher quality material. Not recommended.

Finally, a well-made X-Y Table for the home shop.Mar 24, 2007
By Ralph I have found that most of the milling and positioning X-Y Tables available for the home owner / hobbyist are simply not well made and accurate.
Here we have a solid unit with smoothly moving slides all in a useable package with a table large enough to affix the work piece to.
The only detraction is the metric lead screws and dials, necessitating an inch/millimeter conversion.

wrong pictureJun 19, 2010

The picture on this listing matches the Chinese version on every website I have seen it. If you go to the palmgren website ([...]) their photo has some fundamental differences. The most striking is the number of points on the star shaped pocket on the hand wheels. palmgren's has 6 and the chinese copy has 8. The Y travel slide is much wider on palmgren's version and the chines import is a bit narrower. Then there's the mounting slots on the side of the base. The palmgren has four open slots for mounting screws(two not visible) and the Chinese import has two long channels for mounting screws.
The most telling difference is that my Chinese import stripped out the hand wheel shaft because it was made of cheap pot metal exactly as described in a previous review. and mine has 8 pointed star hand wheel faces. as this one does. That detail makes me suspect this one is not the palmgren version but the Chinese import. I suggest buying from the Palmgren website.
But the table is otherwise very sturdy and has very little backlash. I liked mine up until last week.
