One Word... Quality!May 30, 2009
By Douglas Jones

I recommend this grinder to anybody who is interested in quality and willing to pay for it. Title says it all. The build quality is at least equal to the best of any tool in my shop. Built more like tools were in the mid 20th Century, which were all a bit over-engineered to compensate for lack of the ability to computer design right up to the ragged edge of failure point tolerances. Bearings spin for two minutes after powering down, if that tells you anything.

Good buy for mid price grinderApr 17, 2009
By Rumpledbiker The grinder arrived sooner than expected, as all my purchases seem to through Amazon.
I was disappointed that, though Palmgren is an old USA company, and I thought I was getting "made in America" it turns out it was made in China anyways. Oh, well. It seems to be of good quality, well made, quiet, well balanced, and grinds away just fine. I do like the smaller motor profile that makes working on long stock pieces clean up easy to do without running into the motor housing. For a mid price grinder this is the one to consider. I recommend it, but only 4 stars because of it's Chinese heritage.

Great Product...but different than picturedApr 09, 2010
By The Mountaineer Palmgren has always been a great brand of bench grinder to use, they are sturdy and are made to last and this version is 1/3HP but performs nicely.Only one reason that I gave this 4 stars....the product description is somewhat offset, the paint job is a dark grey/flat black finish, there was a small rust spot on the bottom of the base, and the factory sticker was put on crooked. But the body of the grinder is the same as the picture(I've noticed another reviewer reported this 'alternate version' indication on a different Palmgren grinder).Ipersonally think this pic is outdated and that Palmgren no longer does a blue finish on thier grinder.Beyond that, the grinder is excellent quality :)

Not impressiveDec 29, 2011
By DE99 I bought this because some reviewers suggested it is much better than the others (such as the Dewalt)
Received this item yesterday. The color is gray, not the same as shown in the picture, which has already been pointed out by other reviewers. This is not big deal.
I found the workmanship is pretty poor, as judged by the wheels and the tool rest. It wobbles too, and the coarse wheel is not a reasonably perfect circle either. Not sure if the wobbling was due to the sanding wheels or the axis.
What bothered me more was that the manual is COMPLETELY OUTDATED. The tool rest, the nuts, and screws, many looked different from what I had. I took quite sometime to get it assembled. The manual is pretty useless. I had to check the picture on this web to figure out.
It was made in Taiwan but I had initially thought a US one.

Fine ValueNov 09, 2011
By Tree Farmer As a technology educator with more than 50 years of shop time, I highly recommend this grinder for the price.
While not much more costly ($10.00) than the comparable Dewalt model, the smoothness of it's operation is a world away.
I began by purchasing 2 DEWALT DW756 6-Inch Bench Grinders. The first one shook pronouncedly and made a metal on metal sound as it started up. Amazon customer service was very helpful and sent another the next day. Not as bad as the first, but this machine too vibrated too much..and the wheels visibly wobbled as the machine slowed. Removing the wheels in an attempt to discover the source of the vibration, I noticed that the grinding wheels had rather soft plastic inserts at their center. The Palmgren's wheels had precisely drilled holes directly into the wheel itself, which is a standard mark of Quality in such things!
Both DeWalt's were headed back to Amazon.
Checked out Baldor grinders. Had one in our school shop. 30 years of problem free use with middle school kids.... Superb quality but too costly for my budget....So I looked further.
Read reviews on the Palmgren 82061. Not many reviewers but the minor complaints were asides rather than addressing any real problems.
So I decided to buy a Plamgren 82061, and see how a small old company which makes only a few product lines, might be a good choice.
When I unpacked the Palmgren and plugged it in....... It ran very smoothly and the wheels had almost no wobble.
It also took an unexpectedly long time to slow to a stop. Good bearings, reasonably accurate machining, and a well a balanced armature
might have something to do with this.
The rest of the difference appears to be the result of better stones and cast aluminum inner wheel flanges which extend for 2" or so along the shaft back to the bearing area next to the motor section.
DeWalt's engineers thought that identical stamped cup washers with the inner ones resting on small shaft shoulders was a sensible approach to making a $100.00 class grinder.
I disagree, and the folks at Palmgren demonstrate a better way!
In my estimation the Palmgren hits the sweet spot, combining good engineering, decent Chinese quality and a reasonable cost.
