5Awesome ToolFeb 27, 2007
By James A. Wickham
OK, who writes a review for a turning tool? Today I guess that would be me. Perhaps I have to much time on my hands or maybe I just really like the tool and want to share my experience. Either way...

This tool has become an indespensible part of my turing tool kit. I pretty much only do small turning work on my Jet midi-lathe - pens, ornaments, back scratchers, etc. One of the things I've been looking for is something that makes turning acrylic blanks faster without causing a tremendous amount of heat build-up. This tool seems to hit the mark I've been looking for.

Since it's basically a scraper it does ride on it's bevel and this seems to reduce the heat buildup. The difference I'm finding between this and a normal scraper is I don't have to put a burr on the top for the tool to work. This makes sharpening a snap, you sharpen the tool by grinding the flat part of the blade. It doesn't get much easier than that.

I've found it can waste away material in wood and acrylic at an amazing rate and can also finese the piece to create a nice smooth finish. For my pen turning I'm down to just 2 tools, the roughing gouge and the spindlemaster.

Definitely worth the investment.

This is an excellent two in one tool for woodturners. It serves as both a skew and a gouge although it doesn't replace the quality of cut you get from the tools individually.
