For the money you cannot beat this tool. Ot of the box you will want to dress up the blade to get the best performance. I also smoothed the chip breaker where it meets the blade to ensure there was good contact and reduce the chance for any blade chatter. The base of the plane is well built, almost identical to the old stanleys. The depth adjustment does have some play in it, but nothing that cannot be worked with. The blade is decent once tuned, but upgrading to a Hock blade would be a good investment. While this does not have the fit and finish of a Veritas or Lie-Nielsen plane, the performance after taking a little time to tune it up is very very good. And even if you upgrade to a Hock blade you are still looking at less than half the cost of those tools as well.
