Must have itemJun 22, 2000
This is a must have item for woodcarving or lathe tools (gouges, etc). This jig is what makes the Tormek stand above other sharpening systems. It allows you to sharpen curved tools on the straight stone, something that is extremely difficult for the novice, and is very time consuming.

Razor sharp for the relief carver, but requires practiceFeb 27, 2009
By Brad Isaac I am new to the Tormek sharpening system. It is praised worldwide for it's ability to get the best possible blade. The SVS-50 Multi Jig too is of high quality. It has enough thumb screws and swivels to make a gadget lover happy. It's made of sturdy but light metal to make a workshop owner happy.
With that said, the Tormek sharpeners and jigs require practice. I started out sharpening my less used (and less expensive)woodcarving gouges. Before I got the hang of it, I made the blades more dull than they were prior. However, using the magic marker technique and practice brought about some amazingly sharp blades. I tested sharpness on a block of scrap wood where I purposely carved on the ends of the wood against the grain. Sure as the Tormek name, the cuts were nearly effortless and the result was a smooth uniform cut.
So if you have some old gouges you can use to practice, get the jig and bring your relief carving to the next level.
