Tormek Sharpener and Turning AccessoriesJun 09, 2008

I have recently purchased a Tormek sharpening system. More recently, I have purchased the Wood Turner's Kit. I finally have the ultimate sharpening system. Yes, these are expensive tools, but relatively cheap when you have spent almost as much money trying every other sharpening scheme, tools, gizmos and what have you, on the market. If you have a number of edge tools in your shop, they are going to have to be sharpened. Either find someone who already has a Tormek and see if you can get him/her to sharpen your tools, or buy the Tormek. You will not be sorry. They are in a class by themselves. I considered both the Jet and now the Grizzly, before buying the Tormek. In the "buy decision" process, I ran into two other woodturners who had both bought the Jet, sold the Jet, and bought Tormek. They went through a trial and error process similar to what I did. Save your money and buy the best!!!

I have used the various jigs in this kit almost every day for months and it has made keeping my tools sharp a breeze. Recording the settings for my various gouges so that I can re-sharpen ensures that I take off very little metal when I touch up the edge. Occasionally I run a sharpie over the bevel to check my settings and it is spot on every time.

After 10 years of woodturning, I have sharpened with almost every system available. This year I moved to a Tormek style wet grinder and added the TNT kit above. My tools are sharper than ever. I also like the ability to repeat any grind on any tool using this kit.

Like every thing Tormek makes this product is of outstanding quality and ease of use. It has changed my whole wood turning experience in being able to put an edge on any tool in seconds instead of minutes. This system is so easy and convenient that I find myself at the sharpener after every use. The beauty of this system is the fact that I can put a repeatable precision edge every time with minimal material loss. The only down side I see to this product is the price. It is quite expensive as compared to other jigs for other sharpening systems but if you believe in buying the best, this is it.

Its about a month ago when I received my Tormek TNT-708 Woodturner's Kit. The tool kit came nicely packaged on a moulded foam box that organized and secured all the jigs and other stuff that came with the kit. That is great. To me this is a must have sharpening kit for NEW woodturners like myself. So far I have spent 10-12 hours sharpening and re-beveling all my woodturning tools. They are now very sharp. The DVD demostration by Jeff Farris, included in the kit, is excellent. The demostration includes clear techniques on using the jigs, and it also includes woodturming demostration that I found useful. Good job Jeff Farris! The video cut down on my learning curve on how to use the sharpening jigs and got me going in a very short time. For those who like to read, the owners' manual is very well written and presented, as well, and cover other sharpening techniques not covered in the video. Altogether the TNT-708 woodturner's kit is worth the investment, in my opinion.
